Panchvati Ship Breakers

Dathawala Group of Companies started its Ship Recycling activities on 9th November 2000 at Plot No. 20 as Panchvati Ship Breakers in Alang along the western coast of Gulf of Khambhat, Gujarat India. Since, then 48 vessels of different kinds that have yielded more than 362 thousand tonnes of steel, machinery, non-ferrous materials and usable, are been recycled till this date.

Panchvati Ship Breakers follows guidelines of Ship Recycling Code – 2013 by government of India and is certified under ISO 9001:2008, ISO 14001:2004, ISO 18001:2007 and ISO 30000:2009 by Indian Shipping Registry (IR Class) for its ship recycling activities and system. It has been awarded HKC SOC and EU SRR by RINA. It has successfully faced first audit and is soon to be obtaining Hong Kong Convention Statement of Compliance (HKC SOC) from Class NK.

Panchvati Ship Breakers operates in a total area of 3195 m2 and about 857 m2 area is dedicated reinforced cement concrete (RCC) impermeable floor in two sections on which cleaning, cutting and handling of oily blocks, machineries and materials are done. Proper and sturdy drainage systems are applied on each impermeable floor sections with their respective intermediate, bilge and storm water tanks that avoid contamination of soil and water.

Panchvati Ship Breakers has a fleet of 8 Cranes that includes three heavy cranes of capacities ranging from 30-40 Tonnes, 2 medium cranes of capacities ranging from 20-25 Tonnes and 3 light cranes including two fix cranes and a hydra of capacities ranging from 12-15 Tonnes. In addition to it, there are 4 Winches of 75 Tonnes capacity each.

A large work force of about 150-170 workers working in different departments are employed under very experienced supervisors by Panchvati Ship Breakers during its Ship Recycling activity. Since, most of the recycling work is done manually; therefore the magnitude of risks to Environment and Health & Safety also increases. Thus, in order to minimize the risks and avoid accidents, workers are provided with proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) as per their respective works. Also, the Health Safety & Environment Department (HSE Department) of the yard constantly does the risk assessment of the hazards that are linked with the Ship Recycling activity. It executes trainings, mock drills, maintenance, meetings and provides with adequate safety equipment (safety harness sets, SCBA sets etc.) that are essential in mitigating risks and hazards during work.
